I will give you my exact dimensions but again you can truly easily make this any size you want. \r\n\r\nOur box is 21 inches long, 4.5 inches wide, and 3.25 inches tall. \r\n\r\nWe are using some reclaimed barn wood that my nephew had on hand that measures 3 1\/4 inches wide so basically like a 1×4 board. We cut the 3 long boards at 20 inches and once we assembled the box the end boards needed to be 4.5 inches long. Again these end pieces are best cut and measured once you assemble the first 3 boards so you can get an exact measurement.\r\n\r\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19304\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6574-1200x969.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6574-1200x969.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6574-700x565.jpg 700w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6574-768x620.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/>\r\n\r\nStart by assembling the 3 longer boards into a U or trough sort of shape. Again I have and love to use my Ryobi nail gun but if you wanted to use some small finishing nails and a hammer you could or you could just use wood glue and clamp or prop this up until it dried and then do the next step \r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19305\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6576-689x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"1048\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6576-689x1200.jpg 689w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6576-402x700.jpg 402w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6576-768x1337.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/>\r\n\r\nHere’s how it will look. 2 sides and the bottom – all 3 are the exact same size. \r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19306\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6577-1051x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"611\" height=\"698\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6577-1051x1200.jpg 1051w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6577-613x700.jpg 613w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6577-768x877.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/>\r\n\r\nThen you will want to measure from the outside of the board on one side to the outside of the board on the other side to get your exact measurement for your end board. Ours ended up being 4.5 inches exactly. \r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19307\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6578-900x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"891\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6578-900x1200.jpg 900w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6578-525x700.jpg 525w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6578-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/>\r\n\r\nAgain we used wood glue and just 5 small 1-inch nails in my nail gun to nail the ends on. \r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19308\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6579-891x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"916\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6579-891x1200.jpg 891w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6579-520x700.jpg 520w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6579-768x1034.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/>\r\n\r\nHere’s the finished box! Now at this point, if you are using off-the-shelf lumber, you will want to lightly sand it and then finish it however you want. Stain it, paint it, or stain then paint and distress. Since this is naturally aged barn wood that already has a beautiful rustic look to it we are leaving ours just like this. \r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19309\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6580-674x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"674\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6580-674x1200.jpg 674w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6580-393x700.jpg 393w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6580-768x1367.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px\" \/>\r\n\r\nNow you may ask how or where would I use this? or go another step and add some candles.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19311\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6617-1122x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"657\" height=\"703\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6617-1122x1200.jpg 1122w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6617-654x700.jpg 654w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6617-768x822.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px\" \/>\r\n\r\nOr here it is styled with just some greenery picks in it. I see many people that have TV’s over their mantel struggle with wanting to still have some decor that won’t block the TV. Depending on how high your TV is from the mantel, something like this would work perfectly! Plus you can decorate for all seasons by adding some fall picks or garland in it for fall and Christmas greens in it for Christmas.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19312\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6618-1200x1191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6618-1200x1191.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6618-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6618-700x695.jpg 700w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6618-768x762.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/>\r\n\r\nOr line the box with some heavy plastic or buy a plastic plant insert and plant real flowers or herbs in it and use it as a centerpiece box on your outdoor table! I just may have to do this with one of these boxes! \ud83d\ude42\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19313\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6619-1115x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"718\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6619-1115x1200.jpg 1115w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6619-651x700.jpg 651w, https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6619-768x826.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/>\r\n\r\nCould also add candles in it with some seasonal picks or greenery.
