I picked up this entry bench or some would call it a hall tree secondhand a while back.\u00a0 I had hoped to use it out on our back porch to help coral pool towels, swimsuits, etc but realized it just wasn\u2019t big enough or the right thing to fulfill that purpose.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to drill a bunch of screws or hooks into our siding but I have a plan for something else I can build that will function much better.<\/p>\n<p>So I was left with this piece and figured if I needed to get rid of it\/sell it I could make more on it if I went ahead and gave it a makeover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (1 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-1-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (1 of 10)\" width=\"613\" height=\"1261\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s what I did and it turned out amazing!<\/p>\n<p>Materials used:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sandpaper + orbital sand paper<\/li>\n<li>Rustoleum Linen White Chalked paint<\/li>\n<li>leftover piece of beadboard\/glue\/nails<\/li>\n<li>Rustoleum Clear Glaze<\/li>\n<li>4 hooks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (8 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-8-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (8 of 10)\" width=\"636\" height=\"976\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I removed the wood pegs and wood filled those holes and lightly sanded any rough spots\u00a0 on the whole piece.\u00a0 I had a scrap piece of beadboard in my wood pile leftover <a href=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/2015\/08\/05\/how-to-install-a-beadboard-backsplash\/\">from my kitchen in my last house<\/a> and it was just big enough for me to trim to fit in the back of this piece.\u00a0 I knew adding some type of interest in that big solid back would make a big impact and it did!\u00a0 Then I gave the whole thing 2 coats of Linen White Chalked paint and sealed with clear topcoat.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t distress it at all since I just didn\u2019t think this piece called for distressing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (10 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-10-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (10 of 10)\" width=\"604\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I spray painted the hinges with some black spray paint and then installed the new black coat hooks \u2013 those were so much better than those wood pegs!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (9 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-9-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (9 of 10)\" width=\"619\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t a super large piece but just so super cute when it was done!\u00a0 After I finished giving it a makeover, I REALLY wanted to keep it then!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (3 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-3-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (3 of 10)\" width=\"579\" height=\"1028\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I measured every little spot I could think of in my house but it just wouldn\u2019t work anywhere \u2013 it would have overhung 2 inches in nook I have in my entryway, and in my garage mudroom area there was a light switch and alarm panel the back would block <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-sadsmile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/wlEmoticon-sadsmile.png\" alt=\"Sad smile\" \/>\u00a0 I even measured in the bathroom and it was just a few inches too wide.\u00a0 So unfortunately it had to be sold.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (4 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-4-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (4 of 10)\" width=\"598\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had fun styling it with a few fun things just to sort of show how I would imagine it in someone\u2019s house (ok, my house <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile.png\" alt=\"Winking smile\" \/>) and posted it on my local facebook marketplace.\u00a0 I probably should have listed for more because it was spoken for in under 5 minutes and I got 20-30 more messages about it in the time it took the new owner to come pick it up the next day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (6 of 10)\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/DIY-Farmhouse-Hall-Tree-entryway-bench-6-of-10.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Farmhouse Hall Tree (entryway bench) (6 of 10)\" width=\"591\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So there\u2019s the story of the super cute farmhouse hall tree that I couldn\u2019t keep <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/wlEmoticon-smile.png\" alt=\"Smile\" \/>\u00a0 I really do enjoy painting pieces and this makeover was very satisfying!
