($100 room challenge)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the last week before the big reveal next week on the $100 room challenge and I made huge progress in the room this week!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what the room looked like after a fresh coat of paint and removing the one wire shelf that was here above the washer and dryer (you can go back to the first week to see all the before pictures)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0758\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0758.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0758\" width=\"650\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s how it looks now!\u00a0 Yes, there is SHIPLAP in my laundry room!\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile-1.png\" alt=\"Winking smile\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I figure why not have fun with the room since it is the laundry room and anything that can help make me smile during all those loads of laundry is a huge plus! <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/wlEmoticon-smile-2.png\" alt=\"Smile\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0815\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0815.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0815\" width=\"650\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So let\u2019s go back and see how we got here.\u00a0 A while back I had found 2 cabinets in a size that would work at the Habitat store and they\u2019ve just been sitting waiting for me to get a chance to work on this room.\u00a0 I think I paid $45 for both of them with a discount they had that day.\u00a0\u00a0 I added a board for a spacer on each side allowing the doors to open fully and we drilled screws into studs to hang them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"IMG_3123\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3123.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3123\" width=\"650\" height=\"867\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had already planned to put a shelf right on top of the back of the washer and dryer so I realized that would give the perfect stopping point to do shiplap in between the cabinets and I just happened to have 3 strips of leftover \u201cfaux shiplap\u201d left from my daughter\u2019s nursery.\u00a0 I used 8 inch strips of plywood in her nursery but in order to have enough to do in here I ripped it down to 4 inches wide and I had just enough!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I used a nickel for a spacer between the strips of plywood and just nailed them up \u2013 you can see a full detailed tutorial on how to install shiplap using plywood planks in this post.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"IMG_3127\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3127.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3127\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So then I was left with this!\u00a0 I caulked seams and nail holes and then painted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0809\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0809.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0809\" width=\"650\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used Behr Polar Behr for the shiplap and Rustoleum Country Gray Chalked paint for the cabinets.\u00a0 I spray painted the knobs that came on the cabinets with Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0813\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0813.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0813\" width=\"650\" height=\"975\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And I also added a shelf right above the washer\/dryer.\u00a0 I cut a 8 inch wide piece of wood to fit and stained it with Varathane Dark Walnut stain.\u00a0 Because you need to access the outlets and the hoses I just let it rest right on top of some supports (made of out of 1&#215;2 boards) I nailed into the wall.\u00a0 So it is easy to lift up and remove if needed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0823\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0823.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0823\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The outlet ended up right in the middle of the shelf so the shelf sits out a bit in the front of the plate and I cut a little notch for the plug for the washer to come up and plug in.\u00a0 I will probably hide this behind something when I decorate the room <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/wlEmoticon-smile-2.png\" alt=\"Smile\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0827\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0827.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0827\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oh, and want to see what I store in the cabinets?\u00a0 Extra paper towels, napkins, tissues, and toilet paper along with laundry supplies and other household supplies like batteries, light bulbs, packing tape, command hooks, and more! I love closed organized storage!\u00a0 Those little white bins I just picked up at Walmart for $0.98 each \u2013 perfect fit and I love the handle!\u00a0 I just added a quick little chalkboard label sticker.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"DSC_0818\" src=\"https:\/\/thefrugalhomemaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0818.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0818\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So I still have quite a bit to do before next week\u2019s reveal!\u00a0 Trim out the cabinets along the top,\u00a0 install open shelving in between the cabinets (those will be stained the same as the lower long shelf), and hopefully install a hanging bar at the bottom of the cabinets.\u00a0 And then of course decorate and accessorize the room!\u00a0 I have one thing I plan to DIY as decor and then just pull stuff from around the house because my budget is tight on this!<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll do a detailed budget breakdown in the reveal post but so far here\u2019s where I am at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>paint\/stain \u2013 already had<\/li>\n<li>cabinets \u2013 $45<\/li>\n<li>board for shelf \u2013 $8<\/li>\n<li>1&#215;2 board for shelf supports and for trimming out top of cabinets- $1.02<\/li>\n<li>=$54 (but I still need more wood, a rug, supplies for hanging rod, and hopefully a lamp if budget allows)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Can\u2019t wait to show you the full reveal next week!<\/p>\n<p><!-- start InLinkz script --><\/p>\n<div class='InLinkzContainer' id='761964' >\n    <a  rel='nofollow' href=\"http:\/\/www.inlinkz.com\/new\/view.php?id=761964\" title=\"click to view in an external page.\">An InLinkz Link-up<\/a><\/div>\n<p>    <script type='text\/javascript' src='https:\/\/static.inlinkz.com\/cs2.js'><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- end InLinkz script --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the last week before the big reveal next week on the $100 room challenge and I made huge progress in the room this week!
