So remember this metal headboard I bought at my parking lot yard sale few weeks ago<\/a>?  I paid $20 for it plus he threw in bed rails too.<\/p>\n

Turns out it is from Wal-mart and is $49.84 on their site and doesn\u2019t come with rails<\/a> \u2013 so I think I got a pretty good deal! \"Smile\"<\/p>\n

I have been wanting to replace the headboard in my guest bedroom with either a DIY headboard or a iron\/metal headboard.  The headboard I have now is an old wood French Provincial headboard which I could have totally painted, but with a pillow top mattress on the bed it was only just a few inches in height above the mattress.  So honestly it looked like I didn\u2019t even have a headboard on the bed.  It matches the French Provincial dresser that I have in there and was the set I used growing up so I will keep it and hope to repurpose into a bench or something else one day. <\/p>\n

I was so happy when I found this headboard for $20 and new rails since I would need a different type that bolted to the headboard.  I wanted it to be white so into my fancy spray paint booth it went. \"Smile\"<\/p>\n

I used Rustoleum Painter\u2019s Touch 2x Paint + Primer in Gloss White<\/a> (affiliate link)<\/em> and it took almost 2 cans to do this headboard.    I love this paint because it already has primer in it.  If you opt to use something different, I would definitely use a spray primer first.<\/p>\n

I just made sure the headboard was clean and wiped off any dust and then started light coats.  I wasn\u2019t trying to cover any one area in one coat.  The trick with spray paint is shaking the can frequently, applying light\/even coats, and constantly moving the can.<\/em><\/strong>    I worked on it over the span of 2 days but honestly it only took about 10 minutes total of actually working time to do.  I painted one side one day, let that dry fully overnight, and then painted the other side the next day.  That just worked for me but it could totally be completed in one day as long as the weather cooperated and you had enough dry time in between.  Here in GA in the summer the humidity is very high so it took a while for it to dry.<\/p>\n

And here it is in my guest bedroom!  I love actually having a headboard I can see in here.  \"Smile\"  It adds a lot the room.<\/p>\n

I need to pick up some brackets to bolt it to the bedframe.  This headboard can fit a queen or full bed but if you use it for a full bed you have to have extension brackets.<\/p>\n

I actually borrowed the bedding off my master bedroom for this post as I am still trying to figure out what I want to do in here.  I think I have decided on white bedding and I know I am doing yellow accents so now to find another set of white bedding!  If you have any affordable white bedding sets you like, I would love to check them out.  This set is from the Better Homes and Gardens line at Wal-Mart and at under $40 it is a great deal and I absolutely LOVE it.  But I don\u2019t want my bedding in the mast bedroom and the guest bedroom to be exactly the same.<\/p>\n
